Hydrangea Groundbreaker Ruby

Groundbreaker Ruby is stunning in its simplicity. a coveted RHS award from Chelsea Flower Show, this is a true breakthrough in gardening terms. We all love hydranges but they are not always suitable for every garden because of their size so when the Groundbreaker Series came along after extensive development by Dutch hydrangea breeder Alex Schoemaker, it took the world by storm, a low growing, undisputed marvel in terms of small hydrangeas. Now everyone can grow one of the in their garden, patio or balcony! This plant isn't a need...it's a must!!

• Position: Highly adaptable. The Groundbreaker® series thrives in full sun to partial shade

• Hardiness: Exceptionally tough. The panicle-based ground covers are incredibly frost-resistant, shrugging off freezing temperatures down to -30°C.

• Soil & Water: They prefer rich, moist, and well-draining soil. Regular watering is vital during their first year to help the horizontal root system establish itself. 

• Pruning: Incredibly low maintenance. For Groundbreaker® types, simply give them a hard prune in early spring to encourage vigorous new wood and maximum flower coverage.

• Placement: Because they only reach 30 to 40 cm in height, never place them at the back or middle of a border where taller plants will bury them. They belong strictly at the front of garden beds or directly lining a hardscape path, they even work well in a large pot!
• Slopes and Embankments: Their wide, horizontal spreading habit  of 60 to 80 cm in width makes them excellent for mass planting on slopes or banks to control erosion and suppress weeds.
