Photinia Red Robin

This exceptionally popular evergreen shrub turns traditional hedging on its head. Every spring, it erupts with a sensational display of brilliant, glossy, flame-red new shoots that gradually mature into rich, deep emerald-green leaves. If left lightly trimmed, it yields clusters of delicate, creamy-white spring flowers. Fast-growing, dense, and striking, it offers superb year-round privacy screens while injecting a powerful splash of structural colour into any landscape. Forms a dense evergreen hedge that knits together to block out unwanted views, excessive noise and chilling winds. 

These plants are grown here on our nursery and are approximately 40cm-60cm tall at the time of sale.

Planting Instructions & Care

• Position: Best grown in full sun to partial shade. Sunny spots stimulate the most vibrant, fiery red foliage.


• Soil: Prefers fertile, moist, but well-draining soil. Will tolerate clay or loam as long as it does not stay waterlogged.


• Shelter: Provide a semi-sheltered position. Harsh, cold winter winds can sometimes scorch the tender young spring shoots.


• Pruning: Prune lightly in late spring or early summer right after the flowers fade. Cut back the new shoots by up to one-third to encourage a fresh flush of red foliage later in the year.
