During the bleakest months of the year, it shoots up sturdy stems to showcase spectacular, fully double, ruffled blossoms in an exceptionally rich shade of deep maroon to near-black purple. Highlighted by contrasting, crown-like rings of creamy-yellow stamens, these long-lasting flowers add drama, mystery, and sophisticated color to shaded borders, woodland beds and winter patio pots.
