Aster Lady in Black

Lady in Black' is a spectacular, architectural late-season perennial. Bred by the legendary Dutch plantsman Piet Oudolf, it is highly sought after for its dramatic, near-black purple foliage that emerges in spring, followed by an explosion of thousands of tiny, rosy-centered white daisy flowers in autumn. Unlike other perennials, it offers incredible value before it blooms. From spring through summer, its dense, branching purple-black stems and leaves provide a dark, moody backdrop for other garden plants. In late autumn, the dark foliage becomes completely smothered by airy sprays of star-like blossoms, turning the plant into a cloud of white and pink and because it blooms so late in the year, 'Lady in Black' provides a vital, rich nectar source when most other flowers have died back.
