Commonly known as Mountain Sandwort, Arenaria montana is an award-winning alpine perennial that forms a dense, glossy carpet of deep green foliage completely blanketed by large, cup-shaped white flowers. It is highly regarded by gardeners as a robust, weed-suppressing ground cover that softens stone paths, thrives in rockeries, and tumbles beautifully over retaining walls. This plant bursts into life from May to July. The unusually large, five-petalled starry white blossoms create a dramatic, snow-like sheet above the foliage. In autumn and winter, the tight, grassy mat of rich green leaves remains fully evergreen, ensuring the ground is never left bare.
