Ajuga reptans 'Braunherz' commonly known as Bugleweed is a vigorous, low-growing, mat-forming evergreen perennial highly valued for its striking, year-round rich bronze-purple foliage. Very low growing, it can spread very quickly to form a dense carpet up to 50–60 cm wide and more making it exceptional at suppressing weeds. From March onwards, it sends up dense spikes of vibrant, violet blue flowers that sit beautifully against its dark, glossy leaves and more importantly these flowers act as an early-season nectar source for bees and butterflies. Leaf colour intensifies in cooler weather and can become green in dense shade.
