It prefers a moderately fertile, organic-rich soil that is consistently moist during its active growth period but absolutely free-draining. Avoid waterlogged or low-lying ground to prevent bulb rot. Plant the bulbs in autumn at roughly two to three times their own depth, about 10–15 cm deep.
