Bulb Combination No 3.
This is the ultimate in Lasagne Planting with the longest flowering perios going from December until July giving you a lovely display from Winter right into Summer and just to ensure continuous bloom from here until middle of next year, we are adding in some Bellis and Pansies to plant on top!
Flowering Times
- Dec-Jan: 6 Narcissus 'Rijnvelds Early Sensation' is the earliest of all the daffodil varieties and will surprise you very early with their bright yellow trumpet shaped flowers. Height 40cm
- Jan-Feb: 6 of another January flowering Daffodil to bulk up the display, 'Tamara' will extend the flowering from January into February
- Feb-Mar 10 Tulip Greggii Mix are next in line to take the hotseat and they will be delightful, popping up through your pansies and bellis, but make sure to clear away the foliage of the daffodils to enjoy them even more
- April-May: 25 Muscari Armeniacum just after the foliage from the Daffodils and Tulips is cut back you have your lovely little Grape Hyacinths to take at 20cm
- June-July: 5 Allium Atropurpureum will make a bold grand finale with a fabulous shade of dar purple, in a large ball shape rising a stately 100cm over the pot
- Oct - May: 6 of each, Pansies and Bellis can be planted into the top of the pot because there is nothing as trustworthy as Pansy and Bellis to guarantee you a pot full of colour from now until well into 2027
Planting Time and Depth
- Ideal Time to Plant: October to November but don't panic if you haven't planted by December or even into January, they will still flower but just a little later than usual
- The Rule of Thumb: Plant every bulb at a depth equal to three times its own height. so tulip and daffodil bulbs need to go down roughly 15–20 cm (6–8 inches), while tiny top-layer crocuses or muscari only need about 5 cm (2 inches) of soil over them.
- The Spacing: Keep the bulbs 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 to 4 cm) apart or roughly the width of one bulb, the bulbs must never touch each other or the sides of the pot, as contact can trap moisture and lead to rot,
- The Depth: The rule is largest & latest to flower should be planted first so for example Allium would go below Daffodils and Tulips. The smallest bulbs flower the earliest and therefore these go nearer the top of the pot
- Top Tip: Don't panic about the bulbs being too deep or over crowded, the lower shoots will naturally curve and steer around any bulbs sitting directly above them as they grow upward to reach the light
