Dierama pulcherium

Famously known as Angel’s Fishing Rod, Fairy's Fishing Rod, or Wandflower, this is an exquisitely elegant, structural perennial native to the mountain grasslands of South Africa. It forms clean clumps of stiff, grass-like silvery-green leaves from which exceptionally tall, impossibly fine, wiry stems emerge. These stems arch over into perfect curves, bearing clusters of nodding, bell-shaped flowers that sway playfully in the slightest summer breeze. It is highly regarded as a dramatic, focal-point specimen plant for gravel gardens, sunny mixed borders, or pond-side placements. After blooming, the flowers give way to highly decorative, papery, straw-coloured seed heads that stay intact through winter, providing great geometric texture while the grass foliage stays evergreen.
