Miscanthus s. Yakushima Dwarf

Miscanthus sinensis 'Yakushima Dwarf'. Widely considered one of the finest dwarf ornamental grasses available, this compact selection forms a neat, tightly packed, globe-shaped mound of very narrow, gracefully arching green leaves. Each leaf blade features a distinctively bright, silvery midrib that dances brilliantly in the sun and shimmer-softens the texture of surrounding plants. Starting at the tail end of summer and continuing throughout September, 'Yakushima Dwarf' puts on a sensational floral show. Slender stems rise just above the low foliage line to carry masses of feathery, buff-pink flower plumes. As autumn deepens, these flowers transform into silky, cream-colored tassels while the green foliage transitions to warm copper-bronze values. Highly resilient, drought-tolerant once established, and entirely unbothered by wind or coastal conditions, it maintains a strict, non-flopping structural silhouette that provides indispensable winter interest. Thrives in moist, fertile, well-draining loams but easily tolerates heavy clay, sandy, or rocky conditions.
